HENRIETTA LITTLE

Awhile back Jean called me about the round Henrietta Little (if you scroll down farther you'll see it) that I had hooked. She asked if I could do it in a different size. I said sure what size would you like it to be?? She said 19" X 24". Well it did take some tweeking to get it to that size because the pattern is only 11" round and I had to get it to 19" X 24"!!! Jean emailed me Saturday to ask me if I'd put it on my blog because she wrote: Everyone will LOVE HER. Well here she is Jean in all her glory!!! SO happy that you LOVE HER!!!! She'll be at your house soon!!!

NEWLY HOOKED

I love this Red Bird!!! It's another of my original free hand drawn designs. A very primitive folk art that I decided to hook with a touch of Americana look. The navy background is from a vintage wool jacket. What a mess to cut those up!!! I made this one into a pillow with a really neat wool hand sewn on the back and completely stuffed with wool snippets. The size is 8 1/2 X 10 which really looks great on an olde chair or even on a shelf.

It's for sale on Primitive Handmades Mercantile which you can get to by clicking on the banner over there on your left or by contacting me

I hooked this rug by adapting  a needle punch pattern,"Early Bird" by Lori Brechlin of Notforgotten Farm which she sells in her Etsy shop.
It's approx. 13 1/2" X 16 1/2".

It's also available on PHM or by contacting me .

I had quite a shock last Sunday evening. I had received a very nice certificate from the government acknowledging John's service in the Air Force. I made copies on parchment paper and gave them to my kids. I told them that I didn't know for sure, but I thought that it meant that John's stone that he had been entitled to for serving in the Air Force had been finally laid on his grave. I say finally because I've been waiting for it for a year. A couple of months ago I started making some phone calls to see what had happened to it. After being directed to a 3rd person,I found out that it hadn't even been made yet. At least the man I was talking to was honest and said he had no excuse for why it hadn't been done. He told me to write on the calendar 6 weeks from the day and it would be here,if not to call him. That date was March 17th. On March 20th I got a bill from the cemetery for $390 to be sent asap. That charge is from the cemetery, that had gone up from what they told me a year ago,to lay the stone on his grave. Kinda an outrageous price I think for just a flat stone. My kids owe me some money and I told them that they needed to pay me some of it back so I could come up with all of this charge.
Well getting back to my shock. I got a call from my son Mother's Day evening and he said Dad's stone is laid, but it's wrong. They had put his date of death as Sept. 11,2011. His date of death is July 11, 2011. I felt so sad after waiting all this time. Then my daughter called and said what's going on. I was very greatful that she said she would make the phone call to the guy Monday morning. Felt I could have something taken off my shoulders for a change. The guy at Quantico Base called me after she had called him and told me it was his fault. He said they'd be making a new one. I asked when and he said maybe 2 to 3 weeks possibly a month. REALLY??? Why not NOW?? He also said that he didn't know if the cemetery was going to charge me again. I said, well they better NOT. My daughter had also told me that she would call the cemetery. She called them yesterday and he said they had gotten a call from Quantico about the mistake and no they won't be charging me again.
Ya know what John would have said?? what he always said. That's government work for ya!!!
For me it was just something else of the MANY things since I lost him.

VERY PRIMITIVE BIRD RUG

This is my newest original hooked rug. This Blue Bird sure does look very primitive and folk arty!!
It's approx. 9 1/2" X 9 1/2"
Great rug to hang or set on an old chair or stool.
$49.00 + $3.50

I think this would be a very cool pillow too!!
I'd be happy to make it into a wool stuffed pillow for you if you'd like for $7.00 extra.
The shipping would be a little more because of the weight of a pillow.

So things weren't going very well with the realtor I had,so I guess I'm going to try to sell the house myself. My friend brought over some For Sale signs that she bought at Drug Mart for me yesterday. I don't really want to do this because it's been taking a real toll on me physically, but I just want to finally feel some peace in my life and that won't happen here. I feel like I just want to sell everything I own. I'm trying to fix things up around here for showing the house, but I also need to be working on things to sell. Not to mention the fact that this old broad doesn't have an over abundance of energy to be up and around cleaning and sorting stuff. Using my electric wheelchair is TOTALLY imposible so it's VERY slow going. I'm trying to find somebody to arrange a huge garage sale. I just don't know what I'm going to do if I don't get this house sold.

Well my little Meshe became a woman!!! All I can say is that I hope I'll be able to get her fixed before she comes in heat again!!!!

NEW HOOKED RABBIT RUG "CLOVER"

This rug that I've hooked is a design by Laurie of LJ Fibers

It's a large round rug at approx. 15". Great as a chair pad or table rug.

It is available FOR SALE!!!

I probably posted here when I put my house up for sale last September. None of it has gone well all these months. It's a very stressful thing for anybody selling their house, but the stress becomes increased when you're alone and sick.
The day after Christmas I had a cat scan that my Dr. had ordered. When it was over they told me that I'd hear about it the next week. Well they called me early the next morning to tell me that I have stones & cysts in my kidney. I said, Oh well that would explain the increased pain. It's not just from my colon anymore,it's the kidneys too. Don't know what can be done about it cause an appt. was made with a Urologist but I wasn't able to get a ride so I cancelled and still haven't been able to get there. But anyhoo I haven't had anybody look at my house since last September. Then Spring hit and my Realtor's been getting calls. It's VERY hard to get the house cleaned up to be seen. Seems the more I move around the more my kidneys get stabbed. But the worst part is that I've been stood up 7 times!!! I'm waiting at the time THEY'VE set and they don't show and don't call. Many Many things have happened and my listing ends again on the 30th. When you're alone it's so hard to know what to do,but I think I've decided that  I won't be resigning with this Realtor. There's just too many reasons to not stay with her. There's SO many bad things that have been happening that I won't bore you with and it's really taking a toll on me. All I want to do is get out of this jail that I'm in move somewhere to maybe finally find some peace.

So anyhoo if you love to have the "CLOVER" rug decorating your house just contact me!!!

SOMETHING NEW FROM ME TO YOU!!!

Recently when my friend Lori Brechlin of Notforgotten Farm was showing some of her new pattern designs, one of them was a needle punch that had rug hooking around it. I was immediately inspired by it!!!!

So I drew up one of my original designs that had been for a hooked rug. I've hooked and sold this one a couple of times. On my original drawing there were also some half circles around the top area that I did use on the hooked rugs, but decided not to punch them.

The 1st time I hooked it I also had the wool spiral flowers. The 2nd time I hooked the flowers. But for the needle punch version,I knew that I would make the wool spiral flowers and stitch them on. There was a lot of trial & error on this piece!!! I used Valdani hand dyed pearl cotton for the punching. Then I had to choose the wool for the hooked part. I put the NP on several different wools but kept going back to this very dark green & black check it seemed to accent the NP best. And to give it a bit of a spark I hooked a row with a nice blue & black check. I used the same dark wool to hand stitch to the back. The punched part measures approx. 8 1/2" X 6 1/2" and with the hooking approx. 11 1/4 X 9. I think the hooking gives the punching it's own frame. I gave it a black floss little hanger, but the way I really like to hang hooked pieces is with a tiny tack nail because it disappears between the hooked loops.
Thank You Lori for the inspiration!!! I hope to do more of these, but right now I have a round chair pad with a rabbit & flowers that I'm hooking on my frame.

This OOAK primitive needle punched and hooked rug is available for sale.

TULIPS FOR YOU!!!!

I keep reading on blogs & facebook that people want spring to hurry up and get here!!!!

Well I'm kinda different, I've never wanted to hurry the seasons. I just like to take each one for what thy offer. Like last nite when I was looking out at the snowstorm,I said, God,WOW You a truly The Greatest Artist!!! It was BEAUTIFUL out!!!! I've always said that snow is one of the most beautiful things. Of course there's a lot of people who'd like to bitch slap me when I say that LOL!!!! But at night it just makes everything glow and it's so pure and white and when it coats the branches of the trees,it's beautiful art done by God.

OK I'll stop lol!!!! Just one more thing. We are REALLY buried with snow here in Ohio!!!!

So anyhoo since everybody seems to be so anxious for Spring,I decided to design a tulip rug. Red tulips of course, cause red's my favorite color!!!
I've often said that when I design a rug or needle punch,I just put the backing on the frame and draw. Well I did this one a little differently. I put the backing on the frame, but I had all kinds of ideas running through my head. So this is how this rug began... I took a beautiful brown plaid wool and just started hooking a rectangle with TOO MANY ideas of what was going into that rectangle. I'm supposed to take a nap in the afternoon. When I tell Meshe that it's nap time she runs to the couch!!! So there we are,Meshe & me wrapped in our respective blankies,Meshe cuddled up to my neck, sound asleep, but not me. I'm thinking of what I'm going to hook into that rectangle. SO many ideas!!! THEN I had my A HA moment!!! TULIPS IN A POT!!! OK had to get up and get started!!

SOOOO Here It Is!!!
I love antique Ironstone, have a few pieces and have had to sell a few pieces. Ya know how the really old ironstone has that crazed grey or brownish look??? Well that's what I was going for with the pot. I hope you think that I came close. Had to use the wool that I had.

The rug is approx. 8 1/2" X 14". GREAT to hang on a cupboard door!!!  $110.00 + $3.50 Shipping jstoff@windstream.net

I tried to bring a touch of Spring to everyone Hope you like it!!!

Sherry ...... OUT (but not in the snow lol)

This is the rug that's on my frame now.

I LOVE TEXTURED WOOL!!!!

It's just so cool how you can take one piece of wool and get different looks !!!
Now take a look at these heart bowl fillers.

Would you believe that I hooked all 3 from the same piece of wool!!!! Well I did!!!
I think it's just so cool that you can get this look by cutting the wool vertically and horizontaly and carefully choosing each worm that you hook with.
Do these hearts look to you like I used 3 different wools to hook them???

These year round bowl fillers have vintage wool sewn on the back and are stuffed with wool snippets.
They measure approx. 5 1/2"wide X 4 1/4" long.
$38.00 + Shipping SOLD THANK YOU!!!

And here's another rug that I've only used ONE wool to hook the back ground!!!!

Looks like several different wools, doesn't it??? But it's not!!

I think it really has an antiquey look!!!

I designed this rug a few years ago and I seem to hook at least one every year. So here's 2014's!!!

It measures approx. 8 1/2" X 12"
$89.00 INCLUDES SHIPPING

Well I just drew a new design, the wool is cut so it's hooking time!!!
Meshe is all cuddled up in her blankie, taking a break from terrorizing Mommy!!!

Oh Gayle, I really wasn't trying to tease,I was just sharing what you can do with a textured wool.

Free Hand X Stitch

Since my Buddy Lori,Notforgotten Farm, posted a her "crash course" yesterday on her blog about how to do free hand X stitching,I thought I would share mine with you. One nite well before Christmas I was enjoying one of our phone visits, when we talk about everything under the sun!!! I was kinda feeling lost,as I often do. So many things that I was working on,none of them finished, wondering what I could make that people would want to buy. One of the things that we were talking about was the free hand stitching that she had shown pictures of on her blog, that I of course LOVED. She told me just DO IT!!! I started getting excited about it and ideas started flying into my head of designs to draw!!!! Soon as we hung up, I got my stuff out and drew a Christmas tree!!! It was already late when I started so I had to make myself put it down to go to bed. Next day I finished it. Lori wanted to see it so I sent her a picture. She said that she loved it!!! I said, are you crazy woman!! LOL!! Then I drew JOY with the holly and stitched it.
I had too many ideas on how I wanted to finish the tree and wondered if anyone would want to buy these very primitively stitched pieces. As a result you can see that these 2 pieces never got finished, because I just took these pictures of them today.

In the early 80's I had a cross stitch & needlepoint store. I called it, The Magic Needle. I chose that name because to me it WAS Magic how you could take a needle,a piece of thread, and some cloth and end up with something beautiful!!!
I'm to this day self taught with everything I do. I have taught classes to oodles of people. Perfect stitching,no knots and if I missed a stitch, out it would all come!!! There was a joke John had that he'd often say to me as I worked,"Isn't it time for you to tear it out yet??"

I've sold my work for over 40 years now and when my sister was still alive,we'd call my work "Perfect Primitive". If people were going to pay good money for my stuff then it needed to be right!!!

So with this type of stitching I need to let myself go which would probably be good for me lol!!!
Something different that I do though is to use a washable marking pen instead of a pencil, because I'm sure that there will always be that part of me that might just have to be able to wash it out if it's not quite right lol!!! Also I like to use 1 long thread that I can fold in half so I have a loop at the end to slip my needle through for a lock stitch. See what I mean,no knots on the back of your work lol!!! I did order Lori's new patterns even though I can draw they are HER wonderful designs and I can't wait for them to get here!!!
Hoping that I can just let myself go and stitch lol!!!!

NEW RUG AVAILABLE AND OPINIONS PLEASE

Here's the brown and blue heart rug that I showed you in a previous post. I finally got it steamed today. It's approx. 10" X 17"
I would look great on an old bench or table!!!
Asking $125.00 which includes shipping.
CONTACT ME

This rug below is what I'd like your opinion on. When I started hooking it my original plan was to make it into a pillow.

But now I wonder if I should just bind it as a rug/mat. It's approx. 10" X 13".
So what's your opinion please, rug or pillow???

Ya know how on Meshe's B-day you were commenting on how cute & sweet she is??? Well let me tell you what that cute little Yorkshire terrorist did to me last nite!!! I was getting out some yarn and looking for my patterns to crochet a sweater or poncho. I was also warming up something to eat on the stove. In other words busy and not paying attention to what Meshe was doing. Well I 1st saw that she had taken my Sharpie pen,got that back and that's when I saw the WHOLE skein of yarn TOTALLY unraveled laying all over the floor near my bedroom!!!! OMG I was SO mad at her!!! It was already almost 11 so after I ate I tried to start rolling up the yarn. Had a heck of a time just finding an end!!!! Oh and did she ever know that I was mad at her!!!! We went to bed and I told her NOT to come cuddling up to me I didn't want her by me. She went to the end of the bed and kept inching her way up,but not to my neck and chest where she usually is. Oh I was so mad at her yesterday. Those were her bigger things, but she was bad all day!!! Today, not so bad cause I keep telling her how mad mommy was at her, especially this morning when I got back to spending so much time unraveling the mess of yarn. She's a handful!!!!

Thanks For Stopping Buy and your pillow or rug opinions!!!!
